FOR MANY months residents and visitors to Cleveleys have seen the “Opening Soon” signs on the building next to the Pizza Hut and the Vue Cinema on Cleveleys Promenade.
That question has finally been answered this week with the news broken exclusively by www.visitcleveleys.co.uk that Sub Zero Leisure are to run the building as an Icerink and plan to be open for Christmas.
Speculation grew that something was happening last week when scaffolding appeared at the site and with the news by Sub Zero Leisure that “”Cleveleys Prom will never be the same again”, these are some very exciting times for Cleveleys and Blackpool Aloud will be there to cover all the developments on this exciting project.

Cool!
Much as I hate WBC, (mainly the planners), this is good news.
Peter Callow take note.
A small back water town like Cleveleys, full of chavs, trolls, lollops, geriatric gonks and morlocks can progress,so why not Blackpool?
Harold,
you must be from Thornton then are you if thats what you think of the people in Cleveleys
Wasn’t this supposed to be a new West Coast Rock Cafe? Wonder what happened to that!
There is a rumour going round that WCRC will be going into the unit which is being used by Pizza Hut at present (I been told that Hut aren’t doing enough trade). Don’t know how true this is but WCRC was to popular not to reopen.
Sounds great, but excellent point Phil what has happened to West Coast? But I am happy to see something has filled that gaping hole at long last.
It is great to see Cleveleys is doing so well and regenerating which sadly is more than can be said for Fleetwood. I went on a tram ride up to Fleetwood on Saturday and it was a complete ghost town. The tram was pretty much full at North Pier but then most people (mostly tourists) got off in Cleveleys leaving the tram virtually empty. When the tram terminated at Fisherman’s Wharf and 4 people (me included) got off. Then when I walked down Lord St (about 3pm) most of the shops were already closed and the street was deserted as was the promenade. I really would like to see Fleetwood regenerate but like I said the other day I feel one of the biggest things that often holds them back is hostility from the locals toward developments/plans. Something I think would do Fleetwood a great help would be to run a permanent all-year round Fleetwood-IoM ferry service. I really do not understand why they only run it once a year when it is vastly oversubscribed every year with many being turned away, surely that says there is a demand for a regular service.
Good point about the ferry TB,my mate has asked the council the same and also to reinstate the railway to use that service!
WBC= not transport focused!
Does WBC have anything to do with the Ferry anyway?
No
How rude and very unfounded to say that fleetwood locals are hostile to development plans. You have no idea. The fact fleetwood is a ghost town has nothing to do with local residents. So where do you live…..? obviously not Fleetwood as you are clueless about our situation. Jog on back to where you live and stay there.
Wasn’t really expecting this, but brilliant news anyhow – at least the Fylde won’t have to succomb to Amanda’s sky-high ice skating tariffs at the Pleasure Beach any longer!
I hear that WCR are going into the building, the plans which where passed over 12 months ago show a mezzanie floor to be installed for a food and bar area, thus providing space for them without reducing the size of the ground floor space.
Its all here to read
Planning application
Looks like plans are in for a Wetherspoons on the old Kwik Save site Victoria Road. Cleveleys will truly be on the map!!!
That sounds good, a Wetherspoon would be a welcome addition to Cleveleys and that old Kwik Save is an eyesore, it will be good to see something fill the gap.
I agree TB, Thornton Cleveleys is terrible for pubs, truly shocking.
You can get details of the new Wetherspoons from Wyre Borough Council Planning Application – Ref 10/00595/FUL.
Not the largest in the country but it would be a massive bonus for Cleveleys…….Fingers crossed!!!
an off licence would be a bonus for Cleveleys, its a shocking place period;hard to believe 40 years ago it was quite vibrant,(The showboat, Cleveleys Hotel, New Anchor, Durban etc)now thats an article for local historians to come up with!
The Showboat (Gallopers) Happy Days
Cleveleys Friday Night Pub Crawl

ffs you lot dont half get about! lmao
Apparently, the plans for Wetherspoons on the dilapidated Kwik Save site have now been passed!
I agree it will inject some much-needed atmosphere into the town.
Hard to believe that there used to be a night club above the Via in the s0s!!
My phone is playing up! The above should end with ‘above the Vic in the 70s’
;0)
yes it is good, cleveleys is very dire for pubs etc.
Great news about rink being built in cleveleys, at present I’m travelling to Blackburn to play ice hockey, I don’t get home till 12.45 in the morning,
The rink will be ten minutes away for me, hopefully there will be room for a recreational hockey team, if anyone has any info as regards to possible ice hockey being played at cleveleys, I would be very interested, i’ve run teams in the past, and very willing to help on the coaching side of things? Having played hockey for 24 years, I feel I have something to give back to my newly adopted community, best of luck to all involved in this project.
Hi im 21 and have been a follower of skating for many years and skate regualary at blackburn it was just always too far to start playing hockey, always wanted to try out so count me in
I noticed somebody say something about Cleveleys being full of chavs? I live in Cleveleys and its just outside of the blackpool line. Blackpool is the area full of chavs and crime, in Cleveleys its full of OAP’s, so your completely wrong.
You are both right, its full of oaps and chavs, festooned with chavs walking about with white plastic bags, oaps wandering about gawping at thin air and the frequent disability scooter user racing through the ‘town’ nearly knocking over other pedestrians ;its a dire place, souless, lifeless and appalling.
Cleveleys is the epitome of human and social decay;its south shore all over again.
I find you very rude saying all this stuff about cleveleys its not full of chavs at all, there is a skate park where kids go which is next to the cinema and OAP’s have a right to go for walks if they like its a public place for anyone to go so stop thinking you know it all, because you clearly dont as you live in blackpool, theres a lot worse stuff i could say about that place to be honest.
there was no need to say that about south shore
Sorry, its much worse than south shore, if that helps, lol
this is about a new ice rink opening. get a life and stop bitching about peoples hometowns!
Its an ice rink to be surroended by throngs of rapacious wart infested piss reeking pensioners and dirty scruffy chavs with white plastic bags, stinking of fags and ale.
Clevelys is a hideous festering slum.
so is a new ice rink opening or is it all still, well i think ?
The truth hurts, is a festering boil of human decay surrounded by tatty buildings.
