Exclusive Interview: David Webb, Langtrys Blackpool

Hello David,

Many thanks for taking the time to talk to the readers of Blackpool Aloud.

For those that don’t know you own the Langtrys Blackpool, a five star B&B on King Edward Avenue and were recently featured on Channel 5′s Hotel Inspector.   What prompted you to go on the programme?

Purely and simply for the publicity, we could not have reached the audience that the Hotel Inspector reaches and with the repeats we felt it was a risk well worth taking.

What effect did being on television have for your business?

It was immediate as soon as the programme aired we had to un plug the phone, because we could not watch it, we saw it like everybody else we had no preview of it. On line bookings come in straight away plus over 100 emails on the night saying how lovely it looked. To date we have had over 55,000 visitors to our web site and guests from Australia and New Zealand because of the show.

Following your recent success, The Langtrys Blackpool is something of a pioneer for positive change, what advice would you give to other hoteliers in Blackpool who are looking to invest in their buildings but unsure about what to do?

You have to be committed to change, know your market, but look around and see what is happening. We believe that people do want a better standard of accommodation, and this will only increase as more will take holidays in this country due to the cost of air travel and everything that brings with it.

Blackpool has received a lot of investment in recent years with the new Prom, upgraded tram system and with future plans for the Talbot Gateway, as a Hotelier, what improvements would you like to see in Blackpool?

We would like the proposed Ski Centre to be a reality, investment in the Tower and Winter Gardens to go ahead which in turn would bring further investment in to the Town. Blackpool has so much to offer and will have so much more in the years to come.

Finally, with Langtrys Blackpool offering a premier service do you have any plans to capitalise on Blackpool being in the Premier League?

We do have some plans but they are still in the planning stage at the moment, but it will not be much longer before we put them into action.

David, thank you so much for taking the time to speak to the readers of Blackpool Aloud and we wish you every success in the summer and season to come.
