TODAY, BLACKPOOL Aloud speaks with Tom Davis, the Marketing Director of the new Sands Venue Blackpool, based in the old Palentine building on the Blackpool Promenade.
Welcome Tom. Firstly thank you for taking the time to speak to the readers of Blackpool Aloud. What made the Sands Venue decide to come to Blackpool?
We already have a hugely successful Sands Venue in Gainsborough which helped transform the local town into a thriving community giving the local community somewhere where they can experience fine cuisine and world class entertainment. We were given opportunity to become a part of the fabulous regeneration work being currently undertaken in Blackpool and we saw massive potential in the building that used to house the old Palace Nightclub. With substantial investment it is our aim to breathe new life into it and transform this once iconic building into a world class fine dining and entertainment venue that Blackpool deserves.
The Sands Venue in Gainsborough offers an excellent mix of restaurants and entertainment, what can visitors to the Sands Venue in Blackpool look forward to?
Visitors can look forward to the feel of the forties and fifties eras with starlit ceiling, candlelit tables and stylish décor. The Sands Venue’s aims to takes you back to those wonderful variety nights so prevalent in the forties, fifties and sixties complete with outstanding service and exquisite food prepared by our top international chef. To add to the exquisite cuisine, The Sands Venue offers world class entertainment featuring the best Tribute and Party bands and also some of the finest Jazz, Northern South, Motown, Rock n Roll and Comedy acts available.
Many people in Blackpool are very excited to see the Sands Venue come to Blackpool and take on the former old Palace Discotheque, what plans do you have for the building and how is the work going?
Stage One of the will see the creation of the 240 seat restaurant with starlit ceiling, candlelit tables and stylish décor with state of the art sound a lighting. This stage will be ready and opening on the 6th of August 2010. We close in January for the refurbishment of the 2nd floor which will house a VIP champagne and tiered seating which will offer the best seats in the house over looking the main stage. The work schedule is on time and we really look forward to the opening weekend 6th 7th and 8th of August
You are scheduled to open in August, you must be very excited, when you do open will you be open through out the year or just the peak seasons of the summer and illuminations?
We open on the 6th of August 2010 and will be open right through until the end of December when we will close for the second part of our refurbishment. The entertainment will be on Thursday – Sunday evenings with our Christmas Party season seeing nightly entertainment 7 days a week from December.
